Sarah's Goal

I strive to capture the natural expressions of your child and focus on interactions among children and family members. Don't expect any stiff, super-posed shots.  Instead, I like to set the stage and then let the characters play so that images are real, spontaneous, and fresh.

Your Photo Session

Before we get started, we will discuss what you would like to get out of your photo session. Deciding what kind of photo session is very important, so we will know what to focus on during your session. I will also take the time to get to know your child, so once we start photographing; your child will be very comfortable. Photo sessions are never rushed, and normally take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the mood of your child. Please be sure to schedule a time in the day that is best for your child, and when they are happiest. If your child isn't feeling well the day of or before your session, please give Sarah a call to reschedule, as we want your child at their best.

On Location Photo Sessions

Sessions at your home or in comfortable surroundings are my favorite. I keep it relaxed (but fast-paced), fun, and freeing. Bath time, story time, playtime, bedtime, mealtime, and family time--these all make for wonderful moments on camera.  I'm also open to guiding themes as well--consider a city-scape or afternoon out at the ranch or river, maybe a walk in the park, a trip to the ice cream shop, a day at the Zoo or a lazy Sunday morning at home.

Clothing Suggestions

One word, SIMPLE! By staying simple the focus is on you, and not what you are wearing. Some clothing recommendations are overalls, Jeans, khakis, solid color shirts, and simple dresses. Please stay away from anything that has designs, logos, or characters of some sort on theme. Also, I always like to photograph bare feet over shoes.

Black and White Portraits: For black and white portraits, black, navy, brown, maroon or grey turtlenecks for women and long sleeved shirts for men work best. If you don’t have turtlenecks, or long sleeved shirts, short sleeved will work. Black pants or jeans are preferred. For children, darker toned clothing is best for black and white. If you are doing a family portrait, have everyone come in the same tone, for a more uniformed look.

Color portraits: Anything with color! Again, stay simple. Choose something that has a timeless, classic look to it. If you are doing a family portrait in color, a good example would be black t-shirts & jeans.

Newborns: No recommendations here. They will be pretty much naked the whole session. If your newborn doesn't like to be naked, please bring a simple white onsie. For the family being photographed with the newborn, please wear darker colors, as stated in the B & W clothing section. Also don’t forget to bring extra changes of clothing due to newborn accidents that may happen.

Babies: I prefer to photograph them naked. If you would like to bring some outfits, Please limit it to 2-3, as it is my experience, the more changing, the more irritable a baby will get.

Maternity: I recommend you bring white or black tank tops, black pants, and jeans. I also recommend bringing black button down shirts that will expose the belly since the main focus here is the belly. If you have any outfits that you'd like to bring to show off the belly, please do. I also have wraps that you can choose from as well. I am open to anything you'd like to do, and will discuss this at your appointment.

Dress up Sessions: I offer costumes for birthday, fairy, and other limited edition sessions. Please call me to find out about selections and sizes are available.

If you have any questions regarding clothing, please feel free to give me a call.
